Association of the Sea

Association of the Sea

I strolled at the beach
In sight was the glistening of waves
In addition to the sky-blue vault;

Sparkling pearls were Mermaid's tears
Consisted of a limpid and sincere heart
Accumulating little by little;

Breeze brought the sound of waves
As if hearing
Aphrodite emerged from the ocean;

Ripples swept away the footprints
On the sands;
The remaining heat
Was the precise evidence of existence.

Reflections after writing:
I wrote this in senior high school. I used so many metaphors that make the poem hard to be understood.

The speaker is a girl who had broken up with her lover. She went to the beach to release her mood. However, the sound of waves reminded her of love and she burst into tears. Her romance was just like that of Mermaid. She couldn't get together with her loved one. She knew one day her memories would fade away one day like the footprints disappearing on the beach. Nevertheless, she did ever fall in love with someone.

Chinese version of this poem:

海的聯想:

我在海邊漫步
映入眼中的是一片波光粼粼與蔚藍蒼穹

晶瑩的珍珠是人魚的淚
由透明且真實的心
一點一滴地累積而成

微風吹來浪的響聲
彷佛隱約聽見芙洛蒂出水之聲

波浪沖散沙灘上的足跡
殘留的餘溫
是確實存在的證明
